Debt negotiation
One of the first and most viable means of debt relief is debt negotiation. In debt negotiation, either you or your representative will work together with your creditors to negotiate lower interest fees, lower monthly costs, and better repayment terms.
Debt consolidation
Debt consolidation is when you work together with a debt consolidation company that will take your debts with multiple creditors and put them under a single repayment plan. This makes it easier to manage your debt with lower interest and lower monthly costs over a longer term.
Debt settlement
With debt settlement, you work together with your creditor to come to an agreement wherein you will pay a certain amount (less than what you actually owe) to settle your debt. This will erase your debt with the creditor, but it often costs a large lump sum.
Repayment plans
Finally, repayment plans are another basic form of debt relief that is quite similar to debt negotiations. With repayment plans, you work out a new program depending on your income that will help you pay off your debt.
Choosing the right debt relief program
In the end, you will be the one to decide which program to get. Your decision should be based on your specific financial situation and what you think will best work for your level of dedication and discipline.
